What does "life together" really mean?

"Thank you to you again and all the others who loved me when I was trying to get it right and failing."

When we pair mentors and mentees, the first question we ask in their pairing meeting is “What’s your story?” This short but powerful question creates an opportunity to step into the life of another person that would not have existed. From this question, Atlas mentors then walk the road of life with their mentee.

Walking the road of life with another person is hard. It can be filled with frustration and disappointment. Sometimes, mentees don’t seem to make any progress. Sometimes, they go back to situations that drag them down, wiping out any progress they may have made. Other times still, mentees disappear, cutting contact with their mentors entirely.

Even with all these challenges, mentors still choose to step into the lives of their mentees every week. They choose to show up. They choose to take a chance. They choose to love. Through that choice, through that chance, through the choice to love, mentors help affirm the worth, dignity, and value of their mentee. Through these connections, mentees can begin to see themselves as Jesus does: beloved.

How does your partnership make a difference? An Atlas mentor connects every week for at least an hour – modeling Christ’s present love in a mentee’s life. We walk side-by-side with every person we meet, showing them love, encouragement, and support. By supporting Atlas with a gift, you are part of the healing process.

You are connecting hurting people with the love, support, and encouragement provided by a mentor. You are making testimonies, like the one from Candice, possible every day at Atlas.

Without you to love me in the beginning of my recovery, I wouldn't have been able to be successful. Thank you to you again and all the others who loved me when I was trying to get it right and failing.
